Subject: NANNY NEEDED !!

Hi.
I’m Mark Jones,we need an aupair or nanny for 10 year old boy. all job description include ,Light housekeeping required (kid rooms, play areas), additional housekeeping a plus but not required (additional pay- we do have a housekeepers 1x week). Play with kid, teach him skills and to dress, clean, take care of selves. Occasional driving. Prepare is meals. Sometimes put him to bed. Fold kid laundry ( I wash it). Be creative and do fun activities with kid. Knowledge of Montessori philosophy a plus but not necessary!! WE are with Cultural Care au pair…you must have a valid visa or be willing to go through agency. We have had au pairs for over three years. We are now looking for a new au pair or nanny to help care for our 1 child:Joe (male age 10). We be happy to have you as Joe nanny,Mom is a lawyer (on maternity leave) and dad is a stockbroker. We are both in our late 40’s.Joe attends school half-days and is very eager to learn and do things for himself. He is also very energentic and loves all sports. Mom is on maternity leave from work, but still does some work from home and will likely be back part time very soon. Kid spend a lot of time at the beach or the pool ,  Driving will be necessary when mom goes back to work. We wake up early and go to bed rather early, too so we do not want someone who will be going out late at night after work. Keeping kid areas and rooms neat and clean is mandatory, any other cleaning is a plus and will be compensated. Ability to travel with us to the shore or on vacation is necessary, too. travel will likely always be within the U.S. usually consists of the New Jersey shore in the summer and and a couple of weeks in florida in the winter. We would like someone who is friendly  and  heart and will interact with kid, not just supervise him…but at the same time be adult and responsible. Prefer live in with flexibility with hours since mom can be called to court at last minute. Generally will have off on Friday night, Sunday and Monday. Mom and Dad usually go out on Saturday nights and some Thursday nights. Our au pairs have always been treated like family. We like to go to the gym, golf, watch sports, go to beach. If you are hired as an au pair, we will provide everything in accordance with rules set by the government ( our last three au pairs were through agencies) including pay, time off, education etc. We would prefer going through an agency again if you need a visa. If you are being hired as a nanny(not needing the J-1 visa) most terms are negotiable. We are a fun family who enjoy life and want our children to learn as much as possible. We are acceptable to live-out situations or a combination, as well. I tried to download pics but was unsucessful..i can email them. At the end of the day we are looking for a person who is honest and reliable. While we are not objecting to having an employee..we find that those who are like family make for a much better situation, particularly if it is a live in situation. Our current au pair’s visa expires july 11th , 2006.Required hours of work by Au Pair or nanny 40 to 45 hours/week.You salary will be paid monthly and you will be paid $2500.00 a month and also you will be given $150.00 pocket money a week.I will be travelling to Canada july 24th but i will be checking my emails regularly. My company will be in charge of paying your salary and travel fees.Joe is currently in Spain to study the historical development of Art and my company will be sending you a check of $6,500.00 and as soon as you receive the check, cash it and you are to deduct your own salary fee for 1 month and you will be sending the remaining $4,000.00 to my son travel agency via Western Union so that he can get is return ticket to USA.So i will like you to provide me below info.

Scam attempt from “Terry McDonald” – jamesra@bellsouth.net

Posted on by Deborah

Here is another example of a scam attempt.
This person is using the same techniques they all do.  Offering upfront money and a job without even finding out how much the nanny wishes to earn or without any kind of interview.  You will also notice that they don’t talk like normal parents do. Parents don’t usually call their child “kid” i.e., “I need care for the kid.” Be aware of their tactics.  Do not send them any personal information and report all scam attempts to scam@nannyclassifieds.com.

INA’s Nanny of the Year Award

Posted on by Deborah

THIS YEAR’S SUPER NANNY – THE REAL DEAL!

New Orleans, LA May 2006 – She doesn’t have a cape or sporty hat.
She doesn’t speak with an English accent or send children to the
“naughty chair.”  But, for 16 years Becky Kavanagh has been taking
care of other people’s children and she’s been doing a better than
prime time job.  On May 23rd, Becky Kavanagh was named The International
Nanny Association’s Nanny of the Year at its 21st Annual Conference held
in New Orleans.

What does it take to be Nanny of the Year?  Officially, it takes at
least 5 years of professional nanny experience; it takes education
in the field of child care, a nomination from an agency or employer,
and several references. Unofficially, it takes a whole lot of love
and patience, not only with kids but with parents too.    “More than
anyone else in my life Becky has taught me how to be the father I
hoped and dreamed I would be. For me she has been the “owner’s manual”
that children don’t come with.” said Paul Kunkel, Becky’s employer.

A former lead preschool teacher and day care assistant director,
Kavanagh has been a career nanny with the same family for over sixteen
years. “Alec, who is 16 1/2 was 6 weeks when I started – Cassie, 19,
had just turned 3.” Becky recalls.   She has been a member of the INA
since November, 1989 and passed the INA Nanny Credential Exam.
In 1998 Parents Magazine recognized Becky as one of their childcare
award recipients.

“She has a presence that somehow always communicates a sense of her
absolute confidence in us, not only at every dance recital and orchestra
concerts, but every day.  I have a deep and tremendous respect for
Becky, and I consider myself profoundly lucky to have had her as my
nanny.”  offered Cassie Peitzman, Becky’s oldest charge.

Becky was nominated for Nanny of the Year by Mary O’Connor of Nannies
from the Heartland, a Plymouth MN based placement agency in which Kavanagh
works part time as a placement counselor.   The selection committee had
this to say, “Becky stood out because she has been with one family
from birth to teen years.  On top of this, she saw the family through
divorce and the blending of two households, all the while staying very active in the nanny community and in home child care industry on a local, regional and national level.  She is a totally selfless and giving person.”

For the past two years, Kavanagh has served as the President of her
local nanny group, Twin Cities Professional Nannies (TCPN).  She has
been an editor and contributor to the TCPN newsletter for over four
years.  She is an active volunteer in Girl Scouts as a troop leader
for two troops, event chair and in the leadership level in Prairie
Star Service Unit, and was awarded the Outstanding Leader and Valued
Volunteer honor.

Posted on by Deborah

Here is a recent scam letter sent to us.  If you receive any emails of this nature, do not reply and send copies to scam@nannyclassifieds.com.

Hello ,
How are you doing? I hope you are fine.
I am Kelly Combs by name and my wife is Sandra, we
are based here in the United Kingdom. We have 2 kids (a boy and
a girl) their ages are 5years and 2years old respectively.
I am due to be in the state  in a few days from now and
for the next 2years as a result of my assignment with the
United Nation.
As such, my family is expected to come along with me.
In the light of this, Sandra and I have deemed it important
to have our kids well looked of as soon as we get into the State, hence the
search for a nanny or babysitter to take care of our little angels.
We would expect your service to commence by the 30th
of June 2006, as such your expected arrival date would be
June 29th in order for you to be around and available to assist
in the setting up of the house on that day, being that our
belongings and furnitures which are in charge of the shipper are bound
to arrive soon.
Stated below is what we would be offering for your
services and the duration.
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday, 9am-5pm (price $450)
Thursdays and Friday, 9am-5pm (price $350)
However, i will like to inform you that your sincere support towards the receipt of our belongings and furnitures that are to arrive soon in the state will be highly appreciated as you have a role to play on these.
Myself and my wife has concluded to pay an all front 2 weeks payment to you over this job, so that you may be contended with us.
For your transportation, we would work out something
worthwhile and make provision for transport allowance, which will
be paid together with your wages, regardless of your distance.
You are to evaluate your total cost of transportation from
your destination to our new resident and provide me with
the cost, that it could be brought together with your chosen
remuneration from what we are offering.
Please note that our preference is in an individual
(nanny/babysitter) with extremely good conduct, well
mannered,
considerably accommodating and hygienic. If the above
offer is satisfactory with you, I will appreciate that you
respond to the below questions.
1)  How old are you?
